The 1st Light of Dawn Tournament | Labyrinth of Champions | Phase 1 | Entrant #3 - Kamui Leiheng

"Welcome all, to the first annual Light of Dawn Tournament! This tournament challenges the strongest of the strong, the bravest of the brave, the most daring of champions the Six Nations has to offer!

The Avatar cannot watch the world alone; the Avatar cannot guard billions of people all at once, and so the duty falls not only to us, but to you the people to defend yourselves and each other. You must fight to protect what is dear to you, to protect world peace and balance. To preserve these lands for generations to come!

We the Dawn Crusade have started this tournament for that purpose. To weed out potential candidates. To help us fight so that there will always be a dawn tomorrow! We the Holy Paladins of Light!

Now, without further ado, let the tournament begin! Champions, brave the labyrinth and do not look back, for hesitance will only get you killed. Brave the Labyrinth and find your way to Drak'Tharon Keep...those who cannot make it...well, you will have to fight your way out of Gun'Drak.

Good luck champions, and remember: from light comes comes, and from darkness, light. Let your passion be your light in the dark."

Those are the last words you hear before you step into the stone Labyrinth and the stone doors slam shut behind you. You've got enough food to last five weeks, and some basic first aid supplies for when things get grim. Otherwise it's you, your instincts and the voice in your head telling you you can do this, you can win. Just keep walking; that's in, one foot in front of the other. Left, right, left, right, left right, shit.

A few steps in and you're presented with your first choice. Left, right or forward. The path forks into three different, new paths. Each dark and foreboding. You think you hear growling down the left path. Something down the middle path gives you chills and makes you feel cold and hopeless, while the third path...something's watch you--maybe. Maybe because you feel like something's been watching you since you first walked into this maze. But do you have the guts to face it? To see if it, whatever "it" is, is there, waiting for you?

The choice is yours Champion. Pick your path, decide your fate, and fight to the death to defend it.

Growling.  After fighting a Polar Bear Dog a few years back growing didn't scare Kamui anymore.  Besides, how twisted could the beings in this labyrinth be?  It was probably the wind.  Maybe some wolf or something, or a lion.  Kamui would kill it easily.  There would be no trouble.  She drew two blades, Ironfoe and Arbiter.  These swords had tasted blood before, and now they would taste more.  Death would come to those who sought after her in this labyrinth.

Kamui chose the left path and headed towards the growling noise.  While she wasn't afraid of what was to come, she wasn't against caution.  She strode down the pathway carefully, checking behind her constantly for signs of being followed.  Something had been watching Kamui since she first entered this labyrinth, and it wasn't one of the Paladin's guarding the maze.  It was something else...something dark.  What was this wicked presence she felt what....why?  Why did it feel so evil?  So twisted?

Kamui had read something about Drak'Tharon in the library of Dara once.  Drak'Tharon was an ancient Kingdom, a civilization on an island not so far from the Earth Kingdom.  Almost 2000 years ago, before benders from Nippon even arrived to colonize the Six Nations.  They were an ancient kingdom with dark and powerful magics.  But their power consumed them and ended their kingdom.  No one knew how, or why, only that the island with the kingdom's ruins were found just after Aang ended the 100 Year War.  Scholars from the University of Ba Sing Se and the Royal Gakuin University in the Fire Nation travelled there to discover the secrets of this kingdom.

There was no information after that.  Why did the kingdom fall?  What kind of magic?  Could it be weaponized for the Water Tribe's military?  Why did they stop looking?  Why are all the archives missing?  Kamui had to push these thoughts from her mind.  She needed to focus.  Focus on surviving.  It was life or doom in here.

You go left and realize that the walls start getting dryer and dryer the further you go. Soon things get hotter, steam and heatwaves break the musty air. You feel like you're in an oven, or standing near a volcano. As you approach the first courtyard you see, you realize there's a massive light coming from it. You enter slowly, carefully, calmly, waiting to see if there's any danger inside. The labyrinth is not so forgiving. Before you can decide you want to turn back the door slams shut behind you.

Now you're stuck, and you're stuck here with a flaming molten behemoth with two heads. The beast resembles molten lava formed into a living creature. It breathed flame. It was horrible, with horns and chains and a terrible roar. It say in a pool of lava, which is why there was so much light coming from this courtyard. Well you're stuck now, and the only wait out is forward. Forward means killing this demon. Time to get at it Champion.

The Molten Core Hound comes at you, charging at high speed; surprisingly high speeds for a beast so large and sluggish looking. It breaths flame as it charges, swinging its head around, hoping to spear something with its massive horns. That something, of course, is you. Have fun.

The massive, molten beast charged Kamui. Luckily she was able to jump out of the way in time. Thank goodness. She didn't fancy dying in this labyrinth of hell. Nor being skewered by this massive Core Hound. The thing was grotesque, and she was pretty sure it had a few too many chromosomes; there was no way this beast bred normally or naturally. But that was another story.

Kamui dodged to the left and then twirled her swords. Time to be a hero. Jumping with all her strength, Kamui landed on the back of beast. She grabbed it tight. She could feel its warmth through her clothes. Her knees were starting to smoke, where the fabric was slowly burning away. She had to be fast about this. Using all of her senses and strength at once, Kamui raised both blades, tip down towards the beast's spine, and lowered them down, aiming to sink them into the beast's flesh.

The demon screeched horribly and writhed painfully as the swords slammed into its spine. It took a good brunt of the damage. It was in pain. It was angry, and it was dying slowly. No. No it could not die like this. Lord Magmaros would not approve. The demons had to destroy. They HAD to. They had no choice! They would not stop until the world was ended.

Roaring horribly, the demon bucked and tossed and kicked. Kamui went flying off its back, her swords still sitting firmly in its spine. The demon dared not disturb them lest it start bleeding out and die sooner. With the remaining life left in it, the demon inhaled deeply, and unleashed a torrent of molten breath towards Kamui, hoping to roast her alive.

Before you have a chance to defend, the Gods call down from above as a ray of light hits you. Your opponent is frozen in mid-movement. He will not be frozen long; just long enough for you to hear words whispered from above. The Goddess Elounli. She blesses you with her endless love or humans. She seeks to help you. She whispers to your mind.


As the light fades and the voice dies away, your enemy unfreezes. You find your attack raised to 10,000 and your maximum health doubled to 100,000. She could not heal the damage you have taken already, but she did all she could for you. Go forth Champion, you are blessed and ready to fight a hundred more monsters. But do not get comfortable; there is still a long ways to go.

The only thing stopping Kamui from dying on the spot was the blessing of the Gods.  She felt the pain of the flames touching her skin.  They burned, but not like they should.  Kamui was definitely hurt, but not to the point of near death.  Thank goodness too.  She wasn't about to die here.  She wasn't ready to die here.  There was so much more to do.  She had to help her brother, she had to help him make the Water Tribes strong.  To make them unstoppable, like the Empire Ieyasu admired so much.  It was her duty as his General.

Looking at the Core Hound, Kamui knew she was down to very slim pickings when it came to avenues of attack.  She had only a single sword left.  Her wakizashi.  She hadn't even named it, for she did not use it often.  But perhaps it was time to do great things with it.  It was a shortsword katana; a back up.  Time to back up then.  Drawing her sword, Kamui and the demon charged at each other.  The demon roared from both heads, Kamui cried a fearsome war cry.  Roaring she slid beneath the beast, raised her sword, and aimed to gut the monster.
