2nd Tenkaichi Bending-kai Preliminary Rounds ~ Match 4 ~ Loo Li vs. Lyss

“Hello folks, and welcome to the second annual Tenkaichi Bending-Kai Preliminary Tournament's Fourth Match!” The announcer said into his microphone, the noise blasting over the roaring crowd. The battle would take place in a circular Ba Sing Se arena, which had pools of water around the edges, as well as a pit of magma in the middle, which was surrounded by a pool of water. While there would normally be more tricks and traps set up, they were disabled for the preliminaries.

“Today, we'll be witnessing the fierce battle between Kiara Hide and Alyssandra Ezofuji-no-Tsukuyomi. The gates will open on my mark. With the combatants set, and the battlefield ready for them, let's give them a warm welcome!”

Fourth seed match, Loo Li vs. Lyss. Loo Li will have the honor of the first strike.

Kiara stepped slowly into the arena. The sun was up, but it was well past noon, casting all shadows to the East. Thus, the western end of the arena, along with both Kiara and her opponent, cast shadows that were thick enough for use. From her current position, Kiara was too far from her opponent to control her shadow, but that was hardly an issue. She felt her own shadow reacting to her thirst for blood. She extended her right hand outward, showing no emotion. Her shadow seemed to bubble as a long spike formed. It launched like a javelin to the women standing at the other end of the arena.

Alyssandra entered the arena and sized up her opponent. Dark bender. Great. Alyssandra rolled her eyes at her "surprise." With a sigh she prepared to strike, but her opponent was faster and shot a spike of darkness at her and unfortunately Alyssandra was too slow to or dodge. The spike got her in the side, cutting open a fair sized gash. Blood leaked out, but Alyssandra showed no sign of response. She was determined to remain strong. Using her fire bending, Alyssandra pressed her flaming palm against her hip and cauterized the wound so the blood wouldn't get in the way. The injury stung, but Alyssandra did not allow it to harm her.

Preparing a counter attack, Alyssandra went with one of her brother's favourites. The Shooting Star. Placing her hands at her hips, about an inch apart, Alyssandra created a ball of flame. Then she added to the ball, causing it to pulse and grow and shine like a giant flaming heart. Her hands drew further and further apart as the ball grew, then with a quick lunge forward, Alyssandra shot the ball of flame at Yami. As it neared its target, it expanded in an explosion of flame and engulfed the area around Yami. Could she dodge? That was the question.

Kiara watched her opponent, waiting for her to strike. The movement was so swift, and the attack so large, Kiara couldn't dodge. She cried out in pain as the flames burned at her flesh. She blocked her face with her arms, but both her arms and legs were burned. When the fire finally subsided, she was on one knee, winching. She stood up, her face adamant. It had been a long time since she had felt pain like that.

She burst into a sprint, charging at her opponent. As she ran, her shadow bubbled again, and formed a second spike, hurling it at the woman. A decoy. As soon as Kiara was close enough, she pulled the woman's shadow toward her, launching a flurry of small spheres at the woman from below.

Alyssandra's shooting star worked, and did damage to her opponent. It was not terrible or devastating, but it was enough to perhaps make the difference. Alyssandra was able to dodge the decoy spike, that was simple enough. The same trick wouldn't work twice on her. Then, Alyssandra noticed something behind her. Turning, she was struck by several orbs of darkness. The orbs knocked her back, and bruised her in a few more places. Each hit, no matter how small, was enough to tip the scales perhaps, and so Alyssandra took each strike as a personal affront. It was not personal against her opponent.

She bore no hatred or ill will towards this Kiara, but friendship and amicableness went no where in a test of strength and skill. The only way to defeat your opponent was to attack with the intent to defeat, destroy, crush or kill. While the second and last option were not viable here, crush and defeat were. And so Alyssandra struck with the mentality of defeating her opponent. Her back to her opponent, Alyssandra showed off her flexibility and skill, gathering the chi in her finger tips, she prepared to shoot lightning, and as she did, she bent backwards so that her back was parallel to the ground, and stuck out one leg was also parallel to the ground. She balanced, as she had seen an air bender do in this stance, for this stance was one she had learned by studying air benders, and shot the lightning at her opponent.

Kiara Hide

Kiara had seen that stance before, and wondered if the woman she was fighting was also an air bender. Her eyes widened as the lightning shot towards her. She prepared to defend, but light travels faster than dark, and the blast struck her in the arm. Kiara only had time to wrap her shoulder in shadow tightly, attempting to protect the rest of her body from the shock. It had struck her left arm. The smell of burning flesh permeated the air around her. She didn't dare look at the arm. Instead, she clenched her teeth and focused on the woman in front of her.

Her left arm hung loosly at her side. She couldn't even move it. Luckily, she was right handed, but another strike like that could leave her with no useful arms. She was filled with anger, and pulled her cloak off. This battle was getting serious. She looked at the woman's feet. Her eyes widened as she though up an attack. She raised her right hand above her head quickly, and the shadows around the woman rose with it. If it worked, it would lift her off of her feet faster than the nearest patron could say "WHAT" and hurl her across the arena.
