3rd Tenkaichi Bending-kai | Lightewight Division | Semi-Final Round | Match 9 – [#16] Alyssandra vs. [#6] Yami

“Hello folks, and welcome to the first annual Tenkaichi Bending-Kai Lightweight Semi-Final Round!  We are about to begin our third match!” The announcer said into his microphone, the noise blasting over the roaring crowd. The battle would take place in a circular Ba Sing Se arena, which had pools of water around the edges. Tricks and traps were riddled everywhere through this arena, to be activated by Mr. Showbiz's will.

“Today, we'll be witnessing the fierce battle between Alyssandra Ezofuji-no-Tsukuyomi and Yami Sentoki. The gates will open on my mark. With the combatants set, and the battlefield ready for them, let's give them a warm welcome!  Now before we begin, let's remind our fighters that they'll each have 100 HP and will roll a random number of 30 instead of 20 for the Lightweight Matches.  Attack and Defence stay the same, at 10.  Izanagi will have the honour of the first strike!  Now, without further ado...”

Alyssandra stepped out onto the sandy battlefield of the Ba Sing Se Arena; again.  She let out a bit of wry smile as she did.  She had been in this arena five times before.  Three times for the last two preliminaries in the other tournaments as well as the most recent preliminary, and once for the Lightweight Division of the tournament a year ago.  Alyssandra had also just left a fight in this arena, which she had won by forfeit. Oddly, Alyssandra was on her way to winning the Lightewight Championship again, even though she never expected to two years in a row.

Three out of the five times Alyssandra fought in this arena she had won her match, one of those times winner her the title of Lightweight Champion.  Alyssandra had high hopes this year, but she also knew that this year, Mr. Showbiz, the mysterious announcer and operator of this tournament, had lots of surprises up his sleeve.  She had heard tell of a bounty on her head, and each time she won it would grow, and when someone finally beat her, they'd win it all.  So far, she was doing pretty well. No one had claimed that bounty, proudly. Alyssandra let out a small laugh.  Let them try.  

Alyssandra darted into a run.  She removed her long over-robe, throwing it behind her.  Beneath she wore a two legged pant-style hakama that was fitted close to her legs.  Alyssandra also wore a sleeveless, tightly fitted and held together by a wide golden cloth belt.  Her clothes were of a deep, wine red, lined with gold and bits of emerald cloth.  As Alyssandra ran towards her opponent she jumped, using fire blasting from her feet to get some height, then brought her leg up high above her head.  With her heel, foot and calf flaming, Alyssandra landed, slamming her heel into the dirt and sending a blast of flame towards her opponent.

Had it already been three years? Three years of participating in this tournament, and Yami hadn't won at all ever. There was always one obstacle that stood in her way, one fighter who always seemed to gain the upper hand. Who was that fighter? Alyssandra. Both of the previous tournaments, Yami had been knocked out of competing by this princess. But Yami was stronger now. Today would be the day she would prove that she wasn't just some kid from nowhere. She was Yami, demon tamer and heiress to the throne of the Air Nomads.

Of course, all of that confidence was shattered in an instant when Alyssandra hit her directly with a column of flame.

Yami was annoyed. How had she not seen it coming? It was a classic fire bender move, and she had just let it hit her, catching her completely by surprise. That was it. No more thinking, just fighting. She needed to get this battle done and over with as soon as possible.

Alyssandra smirked as she realized who this child was.  It was that little Yami kid from the other two tournaments.  Alyssandra didn't recognize her, for the little girl walked differently; carried herself differently.  Interesting.  Still, she would be no challenge, and easy target.  She always was.  With a sigh, Alyssandra effortlessly dodged her attacks.  It was a pity.  Alyssandra knew what Yami was, the power she possessed.  Both in terms of politics and pure strength.  Such a waste she didn't use it to its full potential.  Alyssandra knew she could, Konoe had taught her, and Konoe could.

Oh well.  Time for her to be defeated again.  With a effortless twirl, Alyssandra grabbed Yami's arm, holding it tight in a lock.  She smiled at Yami.  They both knew what was coming next.  Alyssandra was going to slow Yami down the best way possible, by limiting her attacks.  Pulling with all her strength, Alyssandra put pressure on Yami's arm and aimed to snap it, breaking it so that she couldn't fight back--as well at least.

Yami gasped, her eyes widening in shock. It was all she could do to keep from outright screaming. She had never felt so much pain at once before. Her entire arm shattered, taking her shoulder with it. The limb was completely dislocated. Yami felt her spine shift as well. The entire right side of her body went numb and she fell to the ground, writhing in pain. You have one chance. Let me help you, and you can still win this. Not only that, but all of your injuries will be mended in an instant. This woman is ready to kill you if she has to. Why are you holding back? What is keeping you from unleashing my power, even now, after you know how to control it? Yami's vision was blurry, and her words slurred as she said them aloud. "I made a promise. I'm not about to break it just to win a petty fight."

Yami knew she couldn't stand. The entire right side of her body was paralyzed now. This battle was already over, and she had known that from the moment Alyssandra's first strike hit her. This woman was too skilled for her. Way too skilled. Yami looked up into those murderous eyes, and time seemed to slow. All she saw there was contempt. She couldn't find a light. This woman, whoever she was, seemed...shut up. It was like she were trying to reveal as little as possible about herself. But at the same time, it revealed everything. There was a pain, a longing, a desire for something Yami couldn't name.

Yami didn't notice that her body was shaking, an impulse she couldn't control. A part of her was rational. It was time to give up, or Alyssandra would outright kill her, or at least come dangerously close to doing so. But Yami was raised by a stubborn drunkard. He taught her to be strong. He forced her to become the person she was. Her body may still be weak, and now even crippled, but from her earliest childhood years, a fighting spirit had been engraved into her soul. She would never back down. Even if it meant giving her life in the process.

The audience had gone silent, shocked at what had happened. Yami pushed herself up into a sitting position with her left arm. Without looking, she reached her left arm out toward one of the pools of water. In a swift movement, she brought a large amount directly toward Alyssandra. Only, it wasn't water anymore. Instead, a large, dangerously sharp spike of ice flew at the woman. Yami smiled. "You might be able to break my physical body. But I am a warrior. I won't go down that easily."
