3rd Tenkaichi Bending-kai | Lightweight Division | First Round | Match 5 – [#16] Alyssandra vs. [#20] Kiara

“Hello folks, and welcome to the first annual Tenkaichi Bending-Kai Lightweight First Round!  We are about to begin our fifth match!” The announcer said into his microphone, the noise blasting over the roaring crowd. The battle would take place in a circular Ba Sing Se arena, which had pools of water around the edges. Tricks and traps were riddled everywhere through this arena, to be activated by Mr. Showbiz's will.

“Today, we'll be witnessing the fierce battle between Alyssandra Ezofuji-no-Tsukuyomi and Kiara Hide. The gates will open on my mark. With the combatants set, and the battlefield ready for them, let's give them a warm welcome!  Now before we begin, let's remind our fighters that they'll each have 100 HP and will roll a random number of 30 instead of 20 for the Lightweight Matches.  Attack and Defence stay the same, at 10.  Alyssandra will have the honour of the first strike!  Now, without further ado...”

Alyssandra stepped out onto the sandy battlefield of the Ba Sing Se Arena; again.  She let out a bit of wry smile as she did.  She had been in this arena four times before.  Three times for the last two preliminaries in the other tournaments as well as the most recent preliminary, and once for the Lightweight Division of the tournament. Now, Alyssandra was back here for the Lightweight Division after a year.  Two out of the four times Alyssandra fought in this arena she had won her match, one of those times winner her the title of Lightweight Champion.  Alyssandra had high hopes this year, but she also knew that this year, Mr. Showbiz, the mysterious announcer and operator of this tournament, had lots of surprises up his sleeve.  She had heard tell that once the official tournament started there would be a bounty on her head, and each time she won it would grow, and when someone finally beat her, they'd win it all.  Alyssandra let out a small laugh.  Let them try.  

Alyssandra darted into a run.  She removed her long over-robe, throwing it behind her.  Beneath she wore a two legged pant-style hakama that was fitted close to her legs.  Alyssandra also wore a sleeveless, tightly fitted and held together by a wide golden cloth belt.  Her clothes were of a deep, wine red, lined with gold and bits of emerald cloth.  As Alyssandra ran towards her opponent she jumped, using fire blasting from her feet to get some height, then brought her leg up high above her head.  With her heel, foot and calf flaming, Alyssandra landed, slamming her heel into the dirt and sending a blast of flame towards her opponent.

Kiara hated sand. It was just so...annoying. By the end of the prelims, she had at least three pounds of sand in each shoe. It chafes, it itches, it's gritty and uncomfortable. As soon as she stepped into the loose sand covering the arena floor, she regretting ever even signing up for this dang tournament. But she needed the money, and if she could get paid to beat people up, it seemed like a pretty good deal. Still, she felt a little out of place. As far as she knew, she was the youngest participant in this tournament. The odds were sharply against her. But if there was one thing she knew about bending, it's that it doesn't matter how old you are. All that matters is whether or not you can use and control your gift.

The woman on the other side of the arena was clearly older than she, and quite a bit taller. But that's not what made her stand out. Kiara noticed some striking similarities between her and the woman she had fought in the prelims. A wild guess led her to believe they were siblings, or at least related, and both were obviously Vermilion Empire royalty. Kiara waited for her to make the first strike, and though her aim was true, Kiara saw it coming, and rose a wall of shadow to block the flames. With a hard push, she shoved the rectangular wall in the general direction of her opponent, hoping to crush her under its weight.

Alyssandra saw a giant wall of darkness come towards her, then fall inwards trying to crush her.  With a sigh Alyssandra covered her palm in lightning and jabbed it through the darkness.  It split the wall, and she carved herself a small hole for her to pass through unharmed as the dark wall hit the ground and disappeared into shadow.  Alyssandra gave a tsk, tsk, to her opponent.  That's not how you attack a Fire Bender.

Her palms still covered in lightning, Alyssandra charged towards Kiara and spun around behind her.  Alyssandra was fast, and the loose sand allowed her to slide the last few inches into place.  Flattening her hands into sharp-black shapes, Alyssandra aimed them, fingers first, still charged with electricity, right into Kiara's kidney area.

Kiara watched in silence as the fire bender used lightning to drill her way through her perfectly good wall of shadow. How incredibly rude and insensitive of her. Kiara would be sure to teach her what she was truly capable of, in due time. For the moment, though, she had to switch her mindset and move to the defensive. The woman had just moved behind her.

In an instant, Kiara was in the air, a narrow pillar having acted as a spring, launching her in the air, and taking her place. It was instantly destroyed by the sheer force of the lightning attack. She was airborne, but gravity would make staying that way impossible. She had to act fast. Using her own shadow, now larger due to her closer proximity to the sun, she launched thousands of small, sharpened spikes toward the fire bender. This woman was determined. But Kiara was even more so.
