3rd Tenkaichi Bending-kai | Preliminary Round | Match 8 – [#18] Ulrich vs. [#12] Aryianna

One of the beauties of being a Light Bender was that your entire body became a receptacle for solar energy. You were both a mirror and a battery. A solar sponge and a solar cannon. It was a fun and interesting dichotomy. As Ulrich formulated a plan for his next move in his head, Aryianna had already planned hers. She had spent every second from the her first move to now taking in as much solar energy as possible, storing it in her body, using her chi as a battery for what she was planning.

She of course, did not plan for Ulrich to get behind her, and was pleasantly surprised when he appeared behind her back, hands on the back of her neck trying to burn her with heat. Smart, but incredibly risky. Aryianna bent forward, pulling her neck away from Ulrich, then raised a leg and kicked backwards, pushing him back. She spun, twirled, and shot a laser beam at his thigh, trying to slow him down. Now was not yet the time to use the energy was storing; soon, but not now.

Ulrich predicted the kick. He let go of the woman's neck and stepped to the side, her kick missing as well a her attack. She had left herself wide open. Besides, bending tournaments may have been limited on weapons, but nothing prevented someone from using physical attacks rather than elemental, as the woman had just proven.

Urlich aimed a series of quick punches at the woman. Physical fighting had always been something that came easy to him. After all, he didn't even know he was a bender until his teenage years. He had learned how to fight with only what he could get his hands on, and when that didn't work, just his hands.

Good. He's thinking, he's fighting properly. He's playing to his strengths. That's all Aryianna thought when she felt his attacks collide with her body. She was proud. She had grown fond of the kid. Aryianna was even going to take this kid on as a student and teach him to master his Light Bending as well as he mastered CQC. Besides, something about the angry man standing behind the entrance gate to the arena told her that Ulrich wasn't in this for fun. Aryianna would need to have talk with that man before the day was through; balls to blade. They would have a nice game of cock, paper, scissors. That's what Alyssandra always called it.

Aryianna put distance between her and Ulrich. This fight was never about winning--she might, she had a chance, but that wasn't what she wanted first. First of all she wanted to test this kid's skill. Then she wanted to make him her apprentice. She knew it the moment she saw him walk into the arena. As she distanced herself, she considered user her Solarbeam on him, but still now was not the time. She wanted to save up more solar energy before she unleashed that, and instead settled on a another laser beam to the middle of his stomach.

Ulrich felt a bit of satisfaction that his attack actually hit. After missing over and over, it felt good to finally do some damage. But something was...off. His eyes met with those of the woman. Things seemed to move...slower. What was that look in her eyes? It was something he hadn't seen in years, something that only an old geezer who lived in a forest had ever shown for him: pride. Was this woman proud to get her butt kicked?

Ulrich snapped out of his trance, realizing the woman was attacking again. Another laser. Why was she holding back? She had done much stronger attacks earlier, and he had the burn mark on his shoulder to prove that. Something wasn't right, but he didn't have time to dwell on it. He jumped to the left, rolling a few feet. Now they at least weren't breathing on each other. He envision his staff in his hands, felt it forming. He looked down to see a crude copy of it created out of concentrated light. It didn't really sting to the touch. It kind of...tickled. The palms of his hands were definitely uncomfortable holding pure light. He knew he had to strike fast. He swung the staff at the woman's feet, hoping to trip her, then strike her with the end of it. With a normal staff, it could break a bone or two. But this wouldn't break any bones. No, he didn't want to cause any long lasting damage. He just wanted this woman to burn.

Ulrich came at her, and Aryianna smirked a bit as she saw that he was using a staff made of light. Creative, very creative, and very hard to do. One has to contain the light within certain parameters, and of course made it solid enough to burn someone. Aryianna kept dodging, until she decided that she could use some of that solar energy. Stepping forward, she used her light bending to grab the light staff, and smiled at Ulrich as it faded from his hands, absorbed by Aryianna.

Aryianna then jumped back. Now was the time. She put distance between her and Ulrich, and holding her hands out in front of her, gathered all of the golden light and solar energy she had been storing up. The ground shook a bit and Aryianna could feel the heat from the attack. Her skin tanned slightly from all the exposure to the solar energy. With one final thrust, Aryianna sent a massive blast of light energy towards Ulrich, hoping to hit him square on.
