Personality: Saruyoshi, in public, is your typical government official. Saruyoshi is officially the Commissioner of Public Works, and thus must decide on which infrastructural projects are executed and implemented due to public desire and need, as well as economic, political and social needs. Though a minor post, Saruyoshi is proud to hold a post, and is extremely humbled and proud to have been selected from amongst many minor nobility to hold this post for the Dark Lord.

He is quiet, and does not speak out of turn or above his post, and is always loyal to the Dark Lord whom he serves. Saruyoshi also has a strong sense of duty, not just to his post, but to his people and his country and was part of the number of Dark Benders and Light Benders that served as part of the Imperial Foreign Legion during the Ullondorian Crusades. It was during this time that he was able to accumulate standing in the Dark State government, and was made a minor noble by Emperor Owlan for his service in the war.

Saruyoshi, in his private home life, is calm, collected and happy. He is often making jokes, seen singing or dancing, and always entertaining his family and staff. His other hobbies include painting, topiary, zen gardening and calligraphy, all stemming from Saruyoshi's love of peace and serenity, something he developed during his time in Ullondor. Originally, prior to the war, Saruyoshi was silent, somber and serious.

Though due to the hardships and sadness faced in Ullondor, Saruyoshi slowly devloped his at-home personality that was lighter, and happier, figuring that being too serious in life prevents you from enjoying the good parts.

Brief History: Saruyoshi was born in 689 YAFO. It was a peaceful and quiet time, his father was and heir to a hereditary title as Northern Commissioner of the Capital. As Northern Commissioner, his family's duty was to protect the peace throughout the town, and acted as the police chief to the capital, alternating each month between the Southern and Norther Offices.

It was a minor post that did not pay very much, and so in the months that Saruyoshi's father was not working he acted as a martial arts teacher who would teach weapon styles and Dark Bending to anyone who came to in in exchange for payment. It was during this time, at around the age of 6, Saruyoshi began training with his father in the dojo, learning how to use the three part staff which made him famous during the Ullondorian Crusades. Saruyoshi was also trained in the art of Dark Bending.

Throughout his childhood training, Saruyoshi was engrained with a strong sense of patriotism for his nation; as his father was a minor government worker, though no matter how minor his position, his father served to the fullest of his capacity. When Saruyoshi was 17 his father was elevated to the position of a minor government official when the Empire, now wards of the newly created Dark State, reshuffled the government to weed out corruption and dissenters. His father was made was made Commissioner of Public Works, a duty his father accepted gratefully.

A year later, the Ullondorian Crusades began after an attack by the magicians on the Summit. Saruyoshi was one of the first wave of Dark State men to sign up for the Imperial foreign legion to fight in the war. Though his mother did not want him to leave, Saruyoshi's father allowed it, recognizing his son's desire to make a difference in the fight and be loyal to his nation, and to his rulers, both the Emperor and the Dark Lord. After six months of training, all armies were ready to head to Ullondor, though they did not arrive until 707.

While in Ullondor, Saruyoshi fought in many of the large battles, such as the Siege of Akkaera, the Battle of Byd, the five year campaign that was the Invasion of Meach (which included the three famed Battles of Meach Plain, the Miracle of the Western Plain, the Siege of the Temple and finally the Siege of Aelara), the Battle of Kouthael Swamp, the last official battle of the war, the Battle of the Great Lake. During the 15 year war, Saruyoshi became a highly decorated veteran and rose to the ranks of the foreign legion, becoming a Major by the end of the war.

Once the war was over, Saruyoshi returned home at the age of 33 and found his father in poor health. In order to help his father, he retired from his military career, and was given an Honourable Discharge and a service medal, and took up his ding father's post as Commissioner of Public Works. Shortly after, Saruyoshi married his wife, Aiko, who was the daughter of a member of the royal court and a higher ranking noble family. Eventually, the two had two children, Masutatsu and Atsuki. While they were growing up, Saruyoshi taught them the art of swordsmanship and Dark Bending, much as his father had.

In recent years, Saruyoshi is enjoying a quiet life as the Commissioner of Public Works, still supporting the nation he loves and the people who live within it through his job. He is now 48, and is looking to retire in the next 15 years, passing the title of Commissioner of Public Works to his son, Masutatsu. This, however, did not happen, as in the year 737, a group of rebellious Dark State nobles led by Oda Nobunaga and Katakura Kojuro attacked the capital and conquered it in the name of their order, The Order of the Seven Thorns.

During the attack, the Dark Lord and his family were killed, though Saruyoshi, his family and a few other nobles survived and escaped on the military airship transports that the Empire provided for them. Upon arriving at the Spirit King's Palace, Emperor Eldunar, using his retained authority as supreme head of the Dark State, as the Independence Act had not taken effect yet, to appoint Saruyoshi as the new Dark Lord.

Personality: Aiko is the typical good wife that women of her generation and her social class were expected to become. Born to a noble family, small and minor as they were, Aiko' parents gave her the best education in the classics and the arts. This gave Aiko her love of poetry, music and all things to do with the arts. It also gave her her calm, happy and composed nature. Aiko loves nature in its natural form and beauty, and hates the destruction of anything so pure including another life no matter how small.

She is a caring wife, and a loving mother, following the example of nadeshiko which is supposedly the epitome of feminine beauty and the idealized woman. Aiko loves her children and husband, and supports them in all their endeavours until the ends of the Earth. Though not a fighter, Aiko is capable of self-defence with basic weaponry, though would rarely be seen in a real fight unless the need was great, for she feels it is not her place to be part of the violence of this world.

Brief History: Aiko was born into a minor noble family, though despite this her father and mother spared no expense in her education. Because of that, Aiko was always and continues to be extremely worldly and well learn'd, and betrays her complacent and noble housewife look by often speaking forth her strong views and opinions mixed with deep rooted knowledge of the way things are and were and could be.

It was in this education as a child that Aiko gained her love of not just knowledge and dislike of ignorance, but her love of the arts. Aiko is a very skilled musician and played of the shamisen and koto, as well as the biwa. She loves plays, kabuki, and music of all kinds, as well as painting and poetry and continues to pursue her love of learning and the arts to this day, and is a great patron of the arts in her own right.

As a teenager, Aiko's father and three older brothers were sent off to fight in the Ullondorian Crusade. None of them returned, save for the youngest of her three older brothers, though he died shortly after his return due to sickness, both from his wounds and from the plague that returned with the soldiers from Ullondor. This turned Aiko into a shut in for many months, until her mother, to spare her daughter the grief of becoming an unmarried old maid, married her off to Saruyoshi Shinjuku.

He too was a minor noble who had always fancied Aiko. Though Aiko was too prostrate with grief to notice much at first, she eventually grew to return Saruyoshi's love and the two have been a strong couple ever since. Aiko eventually birthed for Saruyoshi, two children; Masutatsu, currently 20, and Atsuki currently 19. She has raised her children in the same manner as she was raised, and gave them the best education possible. Though Masutatsu has received his father's love of martial ways, Atsuki is a blossoming artist and much like Aiko; something Aiko is more than proud of.

Brief History:
Masutatsu was born the eldest son of Commissioner of Public Works, Saruyoshi Shinjuku of the Dark Nation Royal Court. While the position is a lowly one in comparison to other major court positions, it is, to many nobles, better than being part of the chonin merchant class who had earned their wealthy and bought their title through smart business ventures and commerce. The nouveau riche who had yet to earn their place among the proper nobility; the old money whose families had held power since Dark Lord Ibu--and beyond if you believed some of their stories.

Though a minor noble family with a minor public official position, Saruyoshi cherished his job and treated it with the same care or delicacy as Commissioner of Justice or Majordomo. Masutatsu was thus raised with a reverent respect for this position. Thus Masutatsu was given a proper upbringing, as expected of a member of the Royal Court. Masutatsu was trained in philosophy, law, arts, calligraphy, history, geography, literature, epistemology, sciences, mathematics, military strategy, theology, bending and even weapons mastery.

Masutatsu from a young age, though an excellent Dark Bender in his own right, and a fair swordsmen, disliked weapons, fighting and combat in general. Masutatsu always preferred to talk out his problems calmly and rationally, leaving violence and physical conflict as an absolute last resort, leaving many to label him a pacifist. Though Masutatsu does not take offence to this, and rather honours this title.

Masutatsu's true passions lay in his other studies, his studies in liberal arts; in literature, in philosophy, in law, in morality, in justice, in military strategy, in history. Masutatsu has always defended what is right and what is honourable and just, and thus, as he grew, aimed less for Commissioner of Public Works, and instead prepared himself to aim for the position of Commissioner of Justice. Though a position normally far out of the league of such a minor noble family, Masutatsu was beginning to show prominence in court, and slowly became the odds on favourite for the position.

Recently, with the fall of the civilized world, and the collapse of the royalty across the nations, Masutatsu's desire to become Commissioner of Justice has been overruled by his new destiny. With the remaining authority he had, Eldunar, still Emperor over the Dark Nation, proclaimed Saruyoshi Shinjuku as the Dark Lord, and his family as the new Dark Nation Royal Family. Masutatsu's role as his father's heir has become one of much greater importance, and his desire to oversee justice within the nation has become less of a dream and more of a reality.

Atsuki is unforgivingly brutal and honest. She does not care whose toes she has to step on in order to achieve what she wants, and is even less afraid of saying what she thinks. Above all, Atsuki believes in telling the truth and blunt honesty; to her, without honesty, there can be no friendship, no family, no relationships. As a painter she sees people for whom they truly are; she sees into their beings, their personalities and their pasts, and she sees their perfections and imperfections as well.

This coupled with her unforgivingly honest nature leads her to paint subjects as they truly are, regardless of how they appear. Atsuki is just as quick to draw imperfections as they are as often as perfections. Sometimes to the chagrin of her subjects. Atsuki is also extremely sensual and overtly sexual. She enjoys sexual liaisons with women, and will take any opportunity she has to enjoy one, caring very little for what the outside world thinks.

This too is part of Atsuki's character, as her disdain for judging those by their cover or their actions leads her to rarely care what others think of her, to the dismay of her parents who attempt to control her image, and by extension, the image of the Royal Family. Atsuki's free-spirited nature is often in charge, and she is often seen travelling across the nations painting and sketching whomever and whatever she pleases. Atsuki, while a girl who enjoys beauty in all things, is not particularly fond in home-making or being the perfect "housewife" and rejected many of those teachings throughout her youth.

Brief History:
Though she was born the youngest child and only daughter of a minor noble family, who held only a small position as an official in the Royal Court, Atsuki was raised, like her brother, in a full, proper upbringing as if she were someone of a higher class. Though she respected her father, his position and their title as reverently as her brother, the life chosen for her at birth was not something that called to her after a certain age. Though initially Atsuki was more than happy to grow up, marry a man and become his wife and care for his home and children, this idea soon became less appealing to her as her interests grew.

Her education was no less inclusive as her brother's, but it was the visual arts that drew her in. Studying the paintings, architecture, drawings and sketches of Erolass Ezofuji-no-Tsukuyomi, Imperial Royal and world renowned Renaissance Man and Man of Art. This is what drew Atsuki's attention the most. The deeper she delved into Erolass' ideology and method, the more she fell in love with it. Erolass believed there was always profound beauty in everything and everyone, and it was this beauty that made us all unique. One need only look deep enough to find it; but to find the beauty within others you had to find the beauty within yourself.

At first, Atsuki did not understand what this meant, but around the age of 14, she slowly understood as her preference for men waned, and she slowly realized that her true desire was for other females. Atsuki, at first confused, remembered the words of Erolass, and soon embraced her newfound identity, finding the beauty within herself. It was around this time that she found her love of blunt honestly, for Atsuki felt that the only way to see one's true beauty was to be honest about your strengths, weaknesses, perfections and especially imperfections, for the sum of all of those made you beautiful, and to even attempt to deny one was to lie to oneself.

It's also unknown how Atsuki exactly became overtly sexual, but it's assumed to be around the same time she accepted herself. At the age of 16, she started to sneak out and run away more, going around the nation and eventually the nations, trying to paint and see and sketch as many people and places and things as she could. Eventually her parents ceased trying to stop her, and simply wish her well along her way, giving her the money required to get her going. The figured, if you can't beat them, join them. Even now as the Princess of the Dark Nation, Atsuki has not changed her personality or lifestyle.
