So, I had this idea a long time ago, but I never had the support to get it off the ground. In short, I know there are people that have RPed before and are skilled in the ways of how an RP tends to work. So I figured I'd bring this up here and see what other people think about it.
Basically, the idea came up while I was watching the webseries Red Vs. Blue. For those of you who don't know, it's a long running Machinima (Filmed in a video game, voiced over) using Halo. They've literally used every game in the series at some point. Anyway, that aside, after a couple of seasons they really managed to make their series into a huge, in depth, deep story line with real, likable characters while still keeping it funny and action-y all at the same time. Because of the depth of the story and the universe it created, I started thinking of how many other stories could spawn from this idea.
So I came up with an idea for a Red vs. Blue RP, with the Red team, the Blue team, and the freelancers, and perhaps some others as choosable factions. However, there would be more than just the forum RP as part of the game. Periodically, there would be actual gameplay: Halo gameplay. Usually in the form of team-based games. How the games went and what happened during the games would help to determine things that happened and how the story progressed. Both sides of the Red/Blue fights would be given budgets with which to purchase additions to their bases, additional weapons, vehicles, debuffs against the other team, power-ups, etc. After each game, they would be given money or other boons to help them in their next battle.
Winning, I'd like to mention, wouldn't always mean a bigger advantage, however. One team may win the game, but perhaps doing so would cause some kind of hitch or problem. Or perhaps, after a crushing victory over the Blues, the Reds find that Blue HQ has provided them with a boosted budget, to even the playing field, or a rocket launcher to deal with that pesky tank.
Now, don't get me wrong, something like this would require quite a bit of upkeep and some dedicated staffing, but I think with a little balancing act and some pushes to make some non-Xbox/non-halo owners still able to participate in the RP (Non-gaming roles, AIs, etc.), we could make a fun experience, while suppressing bad sportsmanship and making everything overall amicable. So what do you think? Could something like this work?
TL;DR
Would making an RP forum that integrates Halo gameplay be feasible?
