Hobbies: Kurai likes to listen to and play string instruments, especially melancholy, dark songs. He also likes to read works of fiction.
Quirks: Kurai can't stand insects. At all. He uncontrollably leaps backward a meter anytime he something flys by his face.

Hair: He has long, slightly shaggy black hair that nearly covers his eyes. It just reaches the base of his neck in the back and easily covers his ears.
Eyes: Set deep in his sockets and a little bit angry. But not much. His eyes are blood red, but not in a weird way.
Height: 5'11"
Clothes: When it doesn't seem to strange, like when he's alone or out in a big crowd in the streets where no one knows him, he wears a long, simple, black cloak with a large cowl to cover his face. When he can't wear that, say at some social event or something, he wears a dark, high collared jacket that always seems both a little too big and a little to small at the same time. His pants match.
Skin: He has smooth, very pale skin.
Body Type: Thin, but not bony. Merely narrow.

Personality: Kurai isn't really depressed, but he's quite and ponderous. Some people suggest he's al little old for his age. He doesn't generally act on his emotions often.

Personal Hero: His childhood friend Asta (an actual character I'm about to create soon)

Brief History: Kurai was born in the Capital city of the Vermillion Empire. His family had a large estate there, and that was where he was raised. His mother was a bender but his father wasn't. He had four brothers and two sisters, half of each of which were Shadow Benders. He wasn't paid much attention to by his parents, what with his siblings drawing their parents' attentions, but his brothers would incessantly other him. At the age of about five, he already tried hiding from his siblings everywhere in the estate they lived in. So he began to escape the estate and roam around the rich neighborhood. It was then that he and Asta met.
Each about five years old, they became...friends? If that would be the word. She would drag him around the city to explore and see things, and he would follow her and read. Every so often, though, their completely opposite personalities would clash and they would get into huge fights with each other.
It was during one of the huge fights, when they were nearly ten that they each began to learn their bending abilities. After they made up again, they excitedly told each other about their newfound abilities, only to find, to their surprise, that they were opposing abilities. Kurai himself was a Shadow Bender and Asta was a Light Bender. Though the war was ancient history, Asta suddenly decided that Kurai was "the enemy" and nearly all their meetings after that point were friendly duels (though Asta would never admit the friendly part). In fact, they each only learned bending to the extent that they did in competition with each other. They did that for five whole years, during which they inflicted considerable damage to the surrounding estates--and thus considerable damage to their families' coffers--until their respective families had had enough. When they were fifteen, Kurai and his family moved to their family's main manor in the Dark Nation Capital.
For about a year Kurai was depressed--though, to be honest, few people could tell the difference--until at about 16, he decided that he would completely devote himself to learning Shadow Bending so that next time he met Asta he would beat her. At any chance he can get, he travels around the Dark Bender State of the Vermillion Empire in order to find interesting and unconventional ways to use Shadow Bending, at this point also for his own curiosity. | |
