The Search

Kang and Nanuq made their way to the training rooms, Nanuq leading Kang along so he wouldn't bump into anything.

Kang sighed, a single black tear rolling down his cheek.

Escorting Kang through the marketplace outside of the arena, Nanuq weaved in and out of crowds of spectators, some giving the two dirty and some cheering. The gates of the arena loomed over them as they entered and quickly turned to the left to where the training rooms were located on the side of the arena, "What is the last thing you remember feeling?" Nanuq asked him to create conversation and to ease the serious and sad atmosphere and feeling. Upon entering the training room, three warriors participating in the arena fights pushed past Nanuq and out of the training room, their bags hung over their shoulders and their heads lowered in shame. It was obvious that those three had lost their matches and the three remaining stood proudly and roared in victory with grins that shined from ear to ear. Turning their attention to the two as they entered the training area, they laughed hearty and pointed their fingers, "Look who it is! Nanuq the puddle bender and Kang the lightning lad" one said and the others roared with laughter, "We do not want any trouble. If you cause it then it will only last for a few seconds because i will personally beat you until your chi pops out of your eyes if you go near or touch him" Nanuq hissed, protecting Kang from the three.

Immediately sensing Nanuq's anger and frustration, the three victorious warriors turned their backs to the duo and went about training on the other end of the area as Nanuq escorted Kang to a bench where he sat him down and rested down beside him. He didn't want to tell him what his eyes looked like, personally he had never seen anything like it, then again, he had never truly seen lightning bending like Kang's.

Kang listened to the exchange and felt grateful, yet ashamed. He couldn't even defend himself from a couple of low lives in his state. He turned to Nanuq. "hey bud, can you do me a favor? mind getting me some supplies? I wanna build some new lightning rods. All mine are either broken or back in the arena." He wanted something to do to help him ignore his situation.

Nanuq nodded and escorted his friend to the armory merchant who stood happily in front of his tent with a huge grin on his face that shined ear to ear, "Oh! It's the water bender and his opponent. Changed history out there you two did; never before having two combatants held respect that highly of each other" the merchant commented before gazing over to Kang's eyes. He swallowed with a hard gulp and peered his attention back to Nanuq, "What is it that he would like?" he stuttered with a forced chuckle, "Ask him" Nanuq replied quickly with a serious facial expression as a group of women passed the duo, giggling and gossiping in awe of the sight of Kang's eyes.

Kang listened, trying hard to hold back his emotions. He looked towards where he heard the shopkeeper. "I'll need the following items:" he said, listing the various bits and pieces he required to build his upgrades. He held out his hand with a few silver pieces.

The shopkeeper timidly took the money, then went to retrieve the things.

Kang turned to Nanuq. "Thanks bud."

Nanuq smiled warmly, "No problem" he replied before glancing over to the shopkeeper as he placed down the listed components in front of Kang then turned back into the depths of his shop. Picking them up for Kang and rolling them up into a brown bag, Nanuq hoisted it over his shoulder and patted Kang on his back, "That all?" he asked jokingly with a chuckle, "I never asked. Are you an orphan too? Or do you have a place to stay with family and friends? And where exactly is this orphanage?".

"I'm an orphan, yeah. And i just wander around doing odd jobs to get by. I was never in an orphanage though. Me and my friends were all just street kids. We banded together and made enough money to rent an appartment" Kang explained.

He turned and walked towards the training room, stumbling into a stone pilar instead. He punched it, tears forming in the corners of his eyes. "Why?" He asked himself.

Nanuq smiled as he placed his hand into his pocket and reached in until finding a series of gold coins and flipping them out and handing them to Kang, "I think this should cover the adaption charge" he explained before looking at them once more, this time with a questionable raised eyebrow, "Is it? Not sure, i've never adopted before". Shaking his head, he glanced back up to Kang and flashed him the smile he once had displayed prominently across his face, "We live in the Eastern Air Temple. You are welcome to hitch a ride after the tournament is over. Lullabia, my wife, is going to come and pick us up on the bison we rented for a little bit. You know, just so we could see the family in the Northern Water Tribe and her's in Vermilion City".

Kang cocked his head to one side. "Adoption charge? Adopt who?"

He sat down on the dirt floor. He thought to himself "there must be a way i can see... Gav could see with his earth bending and he's not even blind." He pondered it for a while.

"Hey Nanuq, can you make a quick fog. I have an idea." He didn't even wait for a response. He sent out a weak electrical pulse, using it to feel his surroundings.

He could feel the tent behind him, and the pole he had just run into. He felt Nanuq to his right, standing still (so he hadn't made the fog yet Kang figured). He even felt a line of ants walking along almost 10 feet away. He painted a picture in his mind of what everything looked like.

He still couldn't read the poster over on the wall 30 feet away, He couldn't tell what kind of coins Nanuq was messing around with, and he couldn't see anything over 50 feet away, but at least he could see again.

Kang stood up, then maneuvered around the area, weaving in between people and objects, not once touching anything.

"You know what, belay that. I'm fine. Now let's go upgrade my arsenal. The next match is soon, and i'm up against the defending champion."

Randomly a voice appeared making both Kang and Nanqu jump, "Excuse me!" Then Nanqu and kang faced him. "sorry for bothering both of you, but did you see a short black sword anywhere...i think i dropped it again," he looked at kang and saw that his eyes weren't forcused on him which made him curoius, "Hey lightning bender are you alright?"
