Appearance: The fur on the lower part of an armadillo lion's face is white, along with its feet. The armadillo lion's main trunk and the upper parts of its legs are covered by shaggy brown hair. Its back is topped by an armadillo-like segmented carapace, which extends to cover the top of its head. It also has a hairless, armadillo-like tail. Its body structure allows the armadillo lion to curl up into an armored ball when startled, much like the three-banded armadillo.

Personality: Hanbei is extremely vicious and predatorial, although tamed and trained he is very loyal and faithful, protecting Shirenai from danger. He tends to be stubborn and can administer extreme amounts of stamina when chasing. Because of their flawless night-vision, practically nothing can go unseen by their eyes. Hanbei needs a lot of compassion and praise to maintain his satisfaction, as Armadillo Lions are proud creatures. While generally independent, Hanbei tends to be the wise one of the group always keep Shirenai out of harm's way.

Background: Shirenai met Hanbei during a terrible storm as he was abandoned by his pack as the poor cub was injured and slowly starving. Shirenai came across the injured cub and nursed him back to health for several months. During the time the two got close as Hanbei saw her as a mother figure and as Shirenai saw Hanbei as a rare sight for her. After being able body and strong, Shirenai let Hanbei go back into the forest but only to have him pounce her and not leave her side. So after realizing the bond She decided to take him along and til now her decision hasn't been regretted.
