Name: Dayu
Nickname:
Age: Dayu is nine years old.
Species: Lizard crow
Appearance: Dayu is, from nose to tail, two feet long with a four foot wing span. Her feathers and scales are a shimmering black and her eyes are a deep golden color.
Personality: Dayu tends to respond to Fong’s moods by acting in a similar manner: if Fong is happy, Dayu tends to be rather playful, while if her owner is sad or upset, Dayu barely moves and makes mournful cawing sounds. However, like Fong, Dayu is quite lazy and would rather spend her time curled up outside sunbathing and rarely flies, instead riding wrapped around Fong’s shoulders. When she is panicked, Dayu tends to preen herself and will do so so enthusiastically that she may wind up pulling feathers and scales out, causing her to require some medical attention.
Background: A few days after Dayu hatched, she lost track of her mother and, lost, wandered onto the Li’s farm. While out tending to some crops with her father, Fong found the pitiful lizard crow and took her home to care for her, which facilitated a quick bonding between the two. Initially, Jing and Ming didn’t like the idea of a lizard crow on the farm, afraid that it would wreck some of their smaller plots. However, Dayu quickly took to watching over the plots, scaring away other lizard crows and eating a good deal of the insect pests. Soon, Fong was able to demonstrate how helpful Dayu had been during her short stay there and her parents relented, allowing Dayu to stay, going so far as to build a small shelter for her just outside of the door leading into the fields. However, Dayu rarely slept there, instead having taken to sleeping with Fong.
